The iSHRINK project connects Europe’s island schools with one another to create innovative education based around sustainability challenges.

Creativity and innovation are our best tools in the face of adversity, so how can innovative teaching methods be used to help island schools deliver the best education in the face of declining populations? This is the question that the iSHRINK project seeks to answer.

With school partners, leading universities and technical partners we’ll join forces to create innovative challenge-based learning resources for use across Europe’s islands, isolated regions and beyond. Top universities working on education and sustainability will work with island schools to cocreate truly adapted materials. A broad pool of network schools outside of the project consortium will increase the impact of the project.

Alongside these practical needs, island schools are often a small subset of institutions within their regional or national setting, which can feel isolating and demoralising. To bridge this gap, island schools need to have the opportunity to come together with similar schools from around Europe and share their challenges with one another and work together to solve them.
